AUSTIN, Texas — Madu the Magnificent.
Jennifer Madu left quite a legacy in Texas Class 5A girls' track after one of the most impressive individual performances in recent memory at the state meet on Saturday.
The Plano East senior won the Class 5A girls' 100 and 200 meters and the long and triple jumps at the University of Texas.
"I want to go to sleep right now, I'm tired," Madu said after she collapsed in a heap on the track infield after winning her final event of the day, the 200 meters.
"It's been a really long day," she said.
Her day began at 11:30 a.m. when she won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 8 3/4 inches, a mark she hit twice in her six jumps. At 4 p.m., she won her second straight triple jump title at 42-4 1/4.
After all that jumping and bouncing and landing in the sand pits came the sprints.
