Welcome Hughston Mustangs. My name is Carrie Merritt and I have the privilege of being your principal. “Doing What’s Best for Children” is my primary goal. Here at Hughston, our students run with Mustang Pride! As the instructional leader, I am honored to be working with such a warm and caring staff, loving families and hardworking and happy students.
Growing up as a student in the Plano Independent School District and after graduating from Plano East, one could say I have had first hand experience with the high quality of education Plano provides for all children. Attending Texas A&M University at Commerce, I earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a Specialization in Early Childhood. Through Texas Women’s University, I continued my graduate studies in the area of reading and identifying reading difficulties in young children. In 2006, I received a Masters of Education in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas.
Through out my teaching career, I have enjoyed being a kindergarten teacher and a first grade teacher, as well as working as a Literacy Specialist helping students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. For the last five years, I have appreciated working in the capacity as an assistant principal at Rose Haggar, Brinker, Hightower, Mitchell, Centennial and Daffron.
Here at Hughston, our parent community is very supportive and recognizes the importance of working in partnership for the benefit of all students. Parents and community members are always welcomed at Hughston and volunteering opportunities are abundant.
Our teachers recognize students’ individual differences and strive daily to help each child grow and learn in a safe and secure environment. Through dedication and love each teacher promotes life long learning for themselves as well as their students.
I am very excited to make the Hughston community my home and look forward to continuing the long tradition of achieving student success one child at a time.
