For questions regarding the Band program, please contact Nicholas Thomas at nicholas.thomas@pisd.edu.
We had an all-time high of 19 members earn membership in the All-Region Bands…this is an incredible accomplishment for our young program and Mr. Beaudet and I are extremely proud of how well our students represented McMillen and themselves at the auditions.
Additionally McMillen placed 13 9th graders in the 9th Grade Region Band, which was the 2nd most out of all high schools in the Region (right behind the giant 250+ member Jasper Band which placed 15 and even including Allen HS and their giant band program!). Percentage-wise at 130 members strong, no other school in the Region is placing a higher amount of students in the 9th Grade All-Region Band. We have great kids, great private lesson teachers, great middle school band directors, and a fantastic staff here at McMillen…we could not do what we do without your encouragement and support!
However, most exciting of all, for the first time in our young history, we had 2 students advance to the next round of competition, which is the Area Auditions. These students will compete against the best students (9th-12th grade) from the DFW area for an opportunity to be named a Texas All-State musician, the highest individual honor a student musician can receive. We are very proud of these two students for representing McMillen at this incredibly high level:
Bari Sax – Niko Carbonell – Symphonic Band – Advancing to Area
Euphonium – Allen Gipson-Alexander – Wind Ensemble – Advancing to Area
In addition to the 19 All-Region Band members, we had 7 students be named Alternates, meaning they were 1 or 2 places away from earning membership, which is an impressive accomplishment as well.
Thank you for allowing me to brag on our incredible musicians here at McMillen and please help me in congratulating the following students if they are members of your class or program:
