Comfort Allen McMillen was one of the earliest settlers in the Murphy area, arriving in 1846. His wife was Lydia Maxwell, a daughter of Henry Maxwell, another of the areas initial settlers. The original townsite, located on land owned by C. A. McMillen, was first called Old Decator, after McMillen's hometown, and later, Maxwell's Branch.
C.A. McMillen was one of the trustees of the Maxwell/Murphy Cemetery. Comfort McMillen created the McMillen Cemetery near his homestead and in 1907 he deeded the property to the Corinth Presbyterian Church in Parker, which he helped found. Corinth Presbyterian is thought to be the oldest continuing church congregation in Collin County.
George King has been named as the first principal of McMillen High School. Mr. King is a former social studies teacher who began his career in 1984 at Alief Elsik High School in Houston, Texas. Mr. King has also taught at both Williams and Vines High Schools in Plano. His first administrative role was as assistant principal of Williams H.S. He then served as the assistant principal at Frankford M.S. before becoming principal at Wilson M.S. He comes to McMillen after serving as principal of Bowman M.S. from 2006 - 2010.
Ali Chase has been named the lead counselor of McMillen High School. Ms. Chase joined PISD in 1996 in the ESL department, working at both Haggard and Renner, becoming ESL team leader at Haggard. Ms. Chase also taught honors theatre/speech and PAL classes. She received her masters of education in counseling from UNT in 2004 and holds a nationally certified counselor credential through NBCC. Ms. Chase comes to us from Bowman M.S. where she was a counselor from 2004 until Dec 2010.
