  • IN THE COUNSELING OFFICE - "Chatting with Chase"
McMillen counselors have been very busy conducting one-on-one conferences with all 10th graders and their parents, reviewing credits, planning 11th and 12th grade classes at EAST with career aspirations in mind, and explaining PSAT and PLAN test results. These conferences will continue each day into March. Please let our counseling secretary, Ms. Green, know if you have not received an appointment letter yet- 469 752-8615.

Later this month, each counselor will also be reviewing each current 9th grader's credits, as well as what classes they selected for 10th grade, with an eye to what remaining required classes each student still needs prior to going up to EAST in 2013.

Plano East's applications for "Instructional Practices in Education and Training" are available for 10th graders in the counseling department. They are due March 9th. This field site based program is for those majoring in education, social work, medical fields, child psychology, occupational and physical therapy or speech pathology and other areas. Any questions contact or email raylene.eldridge@pisd.edu

  • HIGH STAKES TESTING:
We are also preparing for state testing to begin in March, continuing into April and May, as well as any AP exams which occur in May.
The first state test is for 10th graders on March 7th, and it is the TAKS English language arts test. The next state test is for 9th graders on BOTH March 26 and March 27th- a 2 day test of writing and reading, part of the new STAAR system and is the EOC (end of course) test for 9th grade English 1. The best way to "study" for any and all state tests is for your student to be at school every day, attend tutorials as needed, and complete classwork and homework every day.
We so appreciate our school parents and are so glad to have your student here at McMillen! Ms. Chase U-Z + AVID, Ms. Davidson A-F, Mrs. Denuszek G-M, Mrs. Banks N-T, Ms. Green, secretary, and Mrs. Morrison, registrar.

  • Parents of 10th grade students-your child will take their English language arts version of TAKS on Wednesday, March 7 starting at 9 AM. This is an un-timed test and all students will sit for approximately 4 hours minimum in a testing classroom. Please make sure your child has a good breakfast before enduring the rigor of this test.

Parents of 9th graders-your child will sit for the writing portion of their STAAR-End of Course exam (EOC) on Monday, March 26 and Tuesday, March 27. This is a timed test that has a 4 hour time limit. Please consult our McMillen website to receive more information regarding these EOC tests.

  • From the McMillen Clinic: All medications, including over-the-counter, must be stored in the school clinic. Students are not allowed to carry medication on their person.

Any prescription or over the counter medication must be accompanied by a completed medication request form and turned in to the school nurse. Forms are available online at: http://pisd.edu/parents/health/documents/Medication_Request_FormFinal2011.pdf

For student safety, all medication should be brought to the clinic by a parent/guardian; however, controlled substances, such as medication for ADD/ADHD and some prescription pain medications must be brought to the clinic and signed in by the parent/guardian.

The only medications students are allowed to carry are emergency medication; insulin, asthma inhalers, Epi-pens. Written permission from parents and the physician is required for students to carry and self-administer emergency medications.

*Attendance Reminder: Please be reminded about our attendance guidelines regarding students leaving the campus during school hours. If a student needs to leave school for appointments, a written note from a parent or legal guardian must be sent to the attendance office the morning of the appointment. Please be sure to include the student's name and time you need to pick your student up. The student will be issued a pass from the attendance clerk to leave the classroom at the specified time. This pass will help eliminate classroom disruptions and help get your student down to the attendance office in a timely fashion. In addition, doctor's notes must be received by the attendance office within three days of your student returning to campus for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions, please call our attendance office at 469-752-8604.
