Kathy Braffman (Literacy Specialist and Team Leader)
Ms. Braffman is the Literacy Specialist at Rasor. She grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri. Kathy earned her Bachelor Degree at Fontbonne University in Elementary and Special Education College, and her Masters of Education in School Psychology from The University of Missouri-Columbia. She has taught students with learning disabilities, acted as a diagnostician, and taught children in grades K-5. She has been teaching at Rasor since 1996. As the Literacy Specialist she hopes to build a love for learning and passion for literacy.
Janie Cantu (English as a Second Language Specialist)
Mrs. Cantu grew up in Plano and graduated from Plano Sr. High. She went to the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She has been teaching in Plano ISD for 25 years at the elementary and middle school levels. She is very excited to be back at Rasor Elementary! Mrs. Cantu is married with two sons.
Mereena Parikh (English as a Second Language Specialist and Title I Reading)
Mrs. Parikh was raised in Lubbock, Texas. She received a B.S. in Biology and Master’s in Elementary Education from Texas Tech University. She has been teaching at Rasor since 2000. She wants to help students learn new things to broaden their horizons and knowledge. She has a passion for learning and hopes to pass it on to her students.
Lynn Swartzendruber (Math Specialist and Title 1 Math)
Lynn Swartzendruber graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Goshen College in Indiana. She taught first and third grade in northeast Ohio and taught third and fourth grade at Mathews Elementary for another 12 years. She and her family lived in England and Germany for a decade where she taught English in a number of international companies. She has a passion for math and is very much looking forward to her second year with the Rasor family. She believes, “Do math and you can do anything.” ( National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.)
