2011-2012 Registration Information

Please contact the counseling secretary to schedule an appointment to register your child at 469-752-6015. All new student registrations must have an appointment. Walk-in registrations will not be able to be accommodated due to other appointments that have already been scheduled.

When enrolling your student in school it is necessary to bring the following:

  • Birth certificate or passport
  • Social Security Card
  • Immunization records
  • Proof of residency
  • Copy of student's last report card
  • Name and address of student's previous school

Attendance Policy and Procedure

Absences
To report a student as absent: CALL 469-752-6000 SELECT 3 Information to include in your message:

  • Name of person calling
  • Date of absence
  • Legal name of student reported (spell last name)
  • Grade of student reported
  • Brief reason for absence

A note is required also to excuse the absence:

  • Due in the school office withing 3 days of the absence
  • Doctor's note required if absent 5 consecutive days
  • Planned absences such as vacations and trips (except those approved in advance by the principal) for unusual circumstances) shall be considered unexcused.
  • In order for the student to make up and receive credit for work assigned during an unexcused absence, the student must submit to the principal, one week in advance, a written notification of the planned absence.
  • When no prior notice is given, students shall receive a zero for all work assigned during the absence (PISD Policy FDD/Local).
  • Partial day absences for medical appointments will not be recorded as an absence if a doctor's note is received upon return to school.
  • To receive an excused absence for a Religious Holiday/Observance, written notification must be submitted to the principal one week prior to the absence (PISD Policy FDD/Local).

All notes must include the information listed above.

Signing Students In and Out During the School Day
The legal guardian or someone listed on the emergency card must sign the student out in the office.
No student is allowed to leave without this authorization.
If students return to school with a note, they may sign themselves back into school.

Deliveries for Students

  • No homework or projects will be delivered directly to students during classes.
  • Homework and other items delivered to school will be placed on the table in the grade level pod.
  • Students who are expecting deliveries are free to check in the pod between classes.

Make-up Work Policy

Parents can request homework assignments for students who have been absent three or more school days by calling the office, 469-752-6000, before10:00 a.m. on the third day of the absence. This requested homework is due upon the student's return to school.

Make-up assignments or tests shall be made available to students after an excused absence.Generally, students are given one school day for each day they are absent to make up the work missed.

Medication at School

Please follow the guidelines below when bringing medication to school:

1.For student safety, all medication should be brought to the clinic by the parent. Controlled substances must be brought to the clinic by the parent. Medications are not provided by the school.
2.All medication must be in its original, properly labeled container with a written request signed by the parent/guardian.
3.Only medication that cannot be given at home will be given at school.
4.Only a 30-day supply of medication will be accepted at a time.
5.Medication that has expired or is not picked up by the parent will be destroyed.
6.Authorized district employees may administer medication in the absence of the nurse.
7.Aspirin or products containing aspirin will not be given without a physician order.
8.Nonprescription, homeopathic medication, dietary supplements and herbal supplements will only be given in accordance with Plano ISD Board Policies FFAC(LEGAL) and FFAC(LOCAL).
9.Over the counter medication must be provided by the parent/guardian in the original, properly labeled container.
10.A written request from your student’s health care provider will be required for any over the counter medication that will be given for over 10 (ten) consecutive days.

With standing orders from the district’s medical officer, the clinics will stock epinephrine and Benadryl for anaphylaxis treatment, to be administered only by the nurse.

Emergency Forms

Important Changes to Emergency Forms for 2011-2012 School Year
NO Emergency forms will be mailed to parents prior to the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. Parents will have access to update contact information and student health information during the summer. Beginning August 1, 2011, the Parent Portal site will be promoted to the 2011-2012 campus. Parents will be able to update contact information, update student health information, select restrictions and electronically sign their children's 2011-2012 Emergency Forms.


School Lunch

Rice Middle School is on the Point of Sale system for lunch. This is an automated cash register system.
Students will be given a PIN number on their schedule. Money can be deposited into student accounts Monday through Friday from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. in a drop box that is located in the cafeteria or you may use PayPAMS, an online payment system.

Lunch prices are $2.75 for students. There are three lunch lines. All three are identical except on Thursday, when one of the lines will be dedicated to salad bar. Ala Carte and Snacks will cost extra money (amount listed in lunch line). Free and reduced lunches are available to those who meet the guidelines. Applications are available in the cafeteria.
