Goal 1

Students in grades K-12 social studies will acquire and apply knowledge and skills across the social studies disciplines.

The students will
Standard A: acquire information from a variety of sources.
Standard B: demonstrate and apply knowledge of key social studies concepts.
Standard C: use critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret data.
Standard D: communicate effectively in written, oral, visual, and technological formats.

Goal 2

Students in grades K-12 social studies will be informed and responsible participants in a democratic society.

The students will
Standard A: demonstrate an understanding of the importance of individual participation and effective leadership in a democratic society.
Standard B: demonstrate an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of individuals in a democratic society.
Standard C: demonstrate an understanding of the democratic process.
Standard D: use problem-solving and decision-making skills to work independently and cooperatively.

Goal 3

Students in grades K-12 will develop an understanding of the diversity of human cultures.

The students will
Standard A: demonstrate an understanding of the components of culture and the concept of diversity.
Standard B: recognize similarities and differences within and among various cultures.
Standard C: recognize different points of view in a diverse society.
Standard D: demonstrate an understanding of the contributions of various cultures and social institutions.

Goal 4

Students in grades K-12 will demonstrate knowledge of social studies through an understanding of history and how societies adapt to and modify geographic, political, social, and economic systems.

The students will
Standard A: analyze how individuals, events and ideas have influenced history.
Standard B: analyze geographic systems and the means by which humans adapt to and modify the environment.
Standard C: analyze structures and functions of political, economic, and social systems.
Standard D: analyze how people organize and interact in society.
