Thomas Teacher of the Year and Beginning Teacher of the Year 2012-2013

Susan Soledade

Thomas Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013 is Susan Soledade. Susan began her teaching career at Thomas in 2000 as a 3rd grade teacher. Two years later she moved to 5th grade where she enjoyed teaching math and science curriculum. This provided an opportunity for Ms. Soledade to attend camp and eventually led to her position as camp director, a position she maintained even after she left the classroom. After 7 years of teaching 5th grade she moved into her current position as Intervention Specialist. Ms. Soledade has served as Intervention Specialist for 4 years and has a true passion and love for her job as she manages the science lab teaching 4th and 5th graders as well as working with math and reading groups.

Esperanza Pratt

Thomas Beginning Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013 is Esperanza Pratt. Esperanza came to the United States 18 years ago from Mexico after marrying John Pratt. She has 2 children who are former Thomas Texans. Her son Matthew attends Clark High School and her daughter Jimena attends Hendrick Middle School. She graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She worked as a teacher assistant at Thomas for the past 8 years and also served part-time during 2 of those years as Attendance Clerk. She currently teaches the bilingual Kindergarten class and considers herself very lucky to be a part of the Thomas staff.
